"What the hand does, the mind remembers." Maria Montessori

What is Montessori Education?

Montessori education was created by Maria Montessori, an Italian physician, educator, and inventor in 1907. Through her scientific observations and work with children, she developed an environment and philosophy centered around their needs. Casa de Bambi (Children’s House) was the first Montessori school in Rome and provided educational opportunities to under-privilege children.

Montessori education emphasizes independence, freedom within limits, and respect for the whole child. Montessori based her method on hands-on,  self-directed activities. The prepared environment inspires the child to explore and discover the activities. Every Montessori material is intentionally in the environment to support the child's development. Thus, creating a space for the child to develop to their greatest potential.
